I am currently seeking participants for my PhD in the Department of Social and Policy Sciences at the University of Bath
The aim of this study is to identify the positive and negative financial impact of losing a parent during early and emerging adulthood.
The results will help researchers to understand what support is needed if your parent dies in this period and what support people are accessing and whether it is helpful. Findings from the study could help practitioners to improve the support that is available locally and across the UK.
My mother died when I was 19 years old and I have worked with bereaved young people for more than 15 years. From my own experience I have insight into the impact of losing a parent during in early adulthood, not only psychologically but also in terms of finances, living arrangements, education, employment and so on. I have been frustrated at the lack of bereavement research on early and emerging adults and the financial impacts of parental death. In this study I would like to ask those who have lost a parent during emerging adulthood about their experiences of bereavement and its wider economic impact.
